Rolex GMT Master II Ref #16710
Purchased NIB with papers from authorized dealer 12-23-06
MSRP: $5075
Here are the specs:
Case: 904L SS 40mm in diameter, 20mm lug width, protective shoulders for crown
bracelet: 904L SS oysterbracelet with fliplock clasp
Dial: black, white gold hr indices filled with superluminova
hands: hr, min hands in white gold filled with superluminova,
center sweep sec hand also in white gold with a round marker near the tip filled with superluminova, triangular tip of 24 hr hand the same, rest of hand is red color (presumably this is gold also)
crystal: sapphire
water resistance: crown is twinlocked protected to 100m (330ft)
bezel: 120 click 24 hr graduated, bidirectional .with blue/red demarcations for night/day respectively
movement: caliber 3185, when crown is pulled out to 1st notch 12 hour hand is capable of making 1 hr jumps without affecting the minutes or stopping the secs. 24hr hand (and minutes) can be adjusted independently when crown is pulled out to last notch
accuracy: thus far +1 sec/day
wearing comfort: fairly comfortable on my slightly under 6" wrist
manual: great for those who don't like to read much, very thin but gets right to the point
box: can't tell what the material is but it's definitely a step up from the cheap foamy green box...
overall impression: a beautiful robust accurate watch with a interesting history. an iconic Rolex, and a true icon in the pantheon of GMT watches.
misc comments:
#1. why i chose the pepsi bezel: as you probably know there are other bezel colors availble: burgundy/black, all black, but i chose the pepsi because this was what the original was like, and i'm a sucker for the classics
#2. what time do i set the 24hr hand to: i chose to set it to GMT time and to remember the diff between my home zone (and 1 or 2 hours) and GMT
#3. another use for the bezel: you could also use the bezel to time things of relatively long durations (1-24hrs) just synch the 24 hr hand with the bezel
overall rating 9.5/10...this watch would be perfect if it had some features of the new GMT such as the bezel clicking perfectly to each hr, rolexes new antimagnetic hairspring, and improved movement (prevents less play when setting hr and 24hr hand)
